Shrek theme park to open in London

DreamWorks and Merlin team up for new attraction

DreamWorks Animation has teamed up with the British theme park operator Merlin Entertainments to create a new Shrek-themed visitor attraction.

The initial roll-out will see six attractions open over a nine-year period, with the first scheduled for London in 2015. Making an appearance at the first Shrek’s Far Far Away Adventure besides Shrek himself will be Fiona, Donkey, Puss in Boots and other favourites from the franchise.

The attraction will be sited at London’s County Hall alongside Merlin’s other attractions on the South Bank: the London Eye, the London SEA LIFE Aquarium and the London Dungeon.

The 2,000 sq m experience will be based on a new adventure being written by the DreamWorks team. It will feature a Shrek interactive walkthrough adventure and a character courtyard where visitors will be able to meet Shrek and his swamp friends, along with characters from Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon.

There will also be a rotating exhibit area supporting DreamWorks Animation film and DVD releases and a branded retail outlet. The Shrek attraction will become part of Merlin’s sixth brand alongside LEGOLAND Discovery Centres, Madame Tussauds, SEA LIFE, The Dungeon and The Eye Brand.
