“The luxury travel market is changing in many ways”
Hoteliers understand that new experiences can help create special memories. As luxury hotels welcome guests who are younger and more adventurous, they are coming under pressure to provide packages and programs that immerse their guests in new cultures.
Greater numbers of luxury hotels offer culture-focused packages that allow guests to celebrate and experience local customs during their stay. In luxury travel and across the board, less active vacations are falling in popularity.
“The luxury travel market will always have the typical affluent traveler who wants the best services and amenities in the typical tourist destinations like New York, Paris, Tokyo and Sydney,” says DM Banks, director of DMB Public Relations. “However, the luxury travel market is also changing in many ways with many affluent travellers being younger and more adventurous.”
Taylor Rains, account coordinator at Rawle Murdy Associates: “The desire for adventure and experiential travel has grown out of a shift in the way people value their time. I do not see this trend disappearing anytime soon.”
Examples include the Peninsula Hotel Bangkok getting guests involved in celebrations such as Thailand’s Songkran Festival. And as companies such as Fairmont, Starwood, Hilton and Ritz-Carlton plan new properties in the Middle East and Africa they are planning exotic experiences to give guests lasting memories of both the destination and the hotel brand.
