Shortest international route to end

World’s shortest flights to be grounded for good
The world’s shortest international flight is to be grounded for good – almost as quickly as it carried passengers between Germany and Switzerland in just eight minutes.
The 20-kilometre route, operated by the Austrian carrier People’s Air Group, only started up last November. Two daily flights are made each way, with one-way tickets priced at €40.
But the airline says it will stop the flights between St Gallen-Altenrhein and Friedrichshafen over Lake Constance (Bodensee) on April 14.
“The withdrawal of the flight is very regrettable to the region and to Bodensee Airport,” said airport chief Claus-Dieter Wehr.
Airline owner Markus Kopf admitted, “There was indeed small, recognisable progress, but we don’t think that the targeted number of passengers could have been reached.”
The company had hoped to fly 40,000 passengers a year on the route, but numbers have fallen some way short of the target.
