Hotels chain sees greater interest in Swedish city
Norrköping in Sweden is emerging as a travel destination. The number of guest nights is increasing and the business region is on the rise. These are the factors behind Scandic Hotels investing in extending the Scandic Norrköping City, plans for which were revealed on Friday.
An extension of 50 to 80 rooms to the existing 161 rooms plus larger restaurant areas are part of the project, which Scandic is working on together with property developer Renströmmen.
The two parties have put forward plans to build an extension in the form of new accommodation in the neighbouring courtyard. The extension will be separate from the existing building.
“We will have a proper increase in capacity and will be able to give our guests a much better deal in terms of accommodation, food and drink. We will also meet growing demand from families with children, as the building will include larger family rooms”, said Mikael Åhrberg, the hotel’s director.
The project is now awaiting a decision amending the zoning before a concrete time schedule can be worked out. The aim is to be finished by 2019.
