Dramatic emergency landing injures 29 people

A Saudi Arabian Airlines plane made an emergency landing in the Muslim holy city of Medina in the west of the kingdom yesterday, injuring 29 people, the news agency AFP reports. The aircraft was flying from Mashhad in Iran with 315 passengers on board.

Of the 29 people injured, 11 were taken to hospital. The others were treated at the airport’s medical centre. The cause of the emergency landing and the type of aircraft were not immediately clear, but dramatic online footage shows the plane appearing to land without its rear landing gear down, leaving a trail of sparks and flames along the runway.
