Satellite data points to final MH370 “ping”

Further evidence Malaysia flight crashed in Indian Ocean

Hishammuddin Hussein, Malaysia’s acting transport minister, says that satellite data confirming that Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 crashed in the Indian Ocean included a final electronic signal that is still being investigated.

Meanwhile, the search for debris in a remote and storm ravaged part of the ocean continues today.

“There is evidence of a partial handshake between the aircraft and ground station at 0019 UTC (GMT),” Hishammuddin said at a press conference. “At this time, this transmission is not understood and is subject to further ongoing work.”

The country’s prime minister, Najib Razak, said on Sunday that satellite-data analysis by the British company Inmarsat showed that the flight had crashed thousands in the southern Indian Ocean. Preliminary analysis of the satellite “pings” had been less specific.
