SAS “strengthens its position in Finland”

SAS has announced that the main task at its subsidiary Blue1 will be to deliver operational flight services to meet SAS’s route network needs. As such, from November 1 SAS will take over responsibility for commercial operations in Finland. This means that from this date it will no longer be possible to buy a ticket from Blue1, even though the aircraft will continue to fly in Blue1 colours and crews will still have Blue1 uniforms. Routes will be conducted as SAS flights with SK route numbers. The Finnish subsidiary will no longer be marketed as a separate company.
Blue1 is Finland’s second largest carrier, giving SAS a foothold behind its arch rival Finnair. In spring, Blue1’s route network was restructured. It had previously flown from Finnish provinces to Europe via Helsinki, but this was changed so that Finns now fly directly to SAS traffic at CPH.
“Finland is our fourth Nordic home market and we have been restructuring our route network in Finland since the beginning of the year,” Joakim Landholm, executive vice president commercial at SAS, explained. “We now fly nonstop between several regions in Finland and Scandinavia, as a complement to the worldwide route network of SAS and the Star Alliance. We are now using the SAS brand to demonstrate our strong offering and our unique customer benefits on the Finnish market as well.”
Janne Hattula, managing director and COO of Blue1 since July, said: “As a production company, Blue1 will be focusing on its operational strengths and continuing to operate its current routes for SAS.”
