Finland’s big attraction suffers fall in tourist numbers
One of Finland’s biggest tourist attractions has filed for bankruptcy. The Santa Claus Office on the Arctic Circle found it could not pay all of the taxes it owed following a dramatic decline in visits, particularly from Russia.
Dianordia, the company behind the dream destination for millions of children around the world, owes more than €200,000 in taxes. But it believes there could still be a Christmas miracle for Santa too and will try to keep the office running.
The financial difficulties are due to the “turbulence in the world”, a company spokesperson says, which caused a sharp drop in visitors. The flow of tourists from Russia and the Mediterranean countries has declined significantly due to the economic problems being faced there.
