Samana is now being offered as a Punta Cana tour

Samana, the Dominican Republic’s less travelled but highly coveted destination is now being offered as a full-day tour from Punta Cana.

Samana is a peninsula in the northeast region of the Dominican Republic, boasting a mix of virgin beaches and lush forests with a terrain that is about 70% mountainous. The area has a rich local history, produce and cuisine that uses coconut as a staple.  Treats like coconut fish, coconut rice, coconut bread and coconut dessert are commonly found at local kitchen tables and local restaurants.

From Punta Cana, visitors board a charter flight and land 30 minutes later in Samana’s Arroyo Barril Airport.  Safari trucks then take the guests into the mountainous countryside with a stop at a typical ranch to learn about and taste the region’s colorful local produce: coconut, coffee, cocoa, mango, pineapple, sweet potato, banana, papaya, passion fruit and mamajuana (supposedly a natural aphrodisiac).

The tour then proceeds to one of the Dominican Republic’s most sought after cascades, Limon Waterfall. Visitors take a 30-minute horseback ride to reach Limon’s thundering waters that crash from 170 feet above into a green lagoon below. Coming down from the mountains the excursion continues, on catamaran, to Cayo Levantado, also known as Bacardi Island, where the drink of choice is always a genuine Piña Colada with rum, ice, juice and a straw right in the pineapple.

No longer is Samana too far for those staying in Punta Cana. This incredibly diverse region is the perfect Punta Cana tour that brings together horseback riding, mountains, waterfalls and palm-tree-studded beaches.
