World’s safest and most dangerous airlines named

Almost 450 airlines have been monitored by AirLineRatings.com and a list of the safest and the least safe carriers has been released. A range of factors are taken into account, such as the airlines’ fatality records and audits from the Federal Aviation Administration and the International Civil Aviation Organisation.

At the top of the list of safest airlines is Qantas, as it has never had a fatality and is also “the most experienced airline”. Others, in alphabetical order, are Air New Zealand, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Etihad, EVA Air, Finnair, Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines.

The safest low-cost carriers are named as Aer Lingus, Alaska Airlines, Icelandair, Jetblue, Jetstar, Kulula.com, Monarch Airlines, Thomas Cook, TUI Fly and Westjet.

AirLineRatings.com says that 149 of the 449 airlines monitored have the top seven-star safety rating. Fifty have three stars or less. Four carriers have just one star or less: Kam Air (Afghanistan), Nepal Airlines, Scat (Kazakhstan) and Tara Air (Nepal). These four are banned from flying in the European Union and “strongly advised against” in the United States. Despite two tragic flights in 2014, Malaysia Airlines has five out of seven stars.
