Flight bans to Turkey, Egypt and Ukraine to cost €67mn
Russia banning all charter flights to Turkey since the start of December, as part of sanctions following the downing of a Russian military jet, means billions of roubles in lost revenues for the country’s airports.
Moscow’s airports will lose 5 billion roubles (€67 million) a year because of the ban on flights to Turkey, Egypt and Ukraine, a Domodedovo airport official has told the TASS news agency
The destinations targeted by the ban account for around 20% of the total number of flights processed by the Russian capital’s airports.
The ban on charter flights to Turkey comes after a ban on all passenger flights to Egypt, imposed as a result of the downing of a Russian passenger plane over the Sinai on October 31. Before that, in October, Ukraine banned Russian airlines from flying there as part of sanctions aimed at its neighbour.
