Agencies organise tours to orphanages in India and Myanmar
An argument has erupted in Denmark, where travel agencies are organising visits to poor and deprived orphanages in countries like India and Myanmar, prompting angry responses.
“I think this is a distasteful and unethical practice,” Peter Albæk, chairman of Children’s Welfare, a private humanitarian body working for children’s rights in Denmark.
The travel agencies, such as Albatros Travel, reject the criticism.
“Our customers want to know more about the countries they are visiting and we want to show them the reality,” argued Steen Albrechtsen, Albatros Travel’s press officer.
