River cruising company takes journalist along the Rhone and Saone

A journalist is hosted by Uniworld, an award-winning river cruising company, as she journeys aboard the River Royale along the Rhone and the gentler Saone from Arles, an ancient city in southern Provence, as far as the medieval ramparts of Beaune. It is a cruise of 430 kilometres across 15 locks. Uniworld describes its cruises as “boutique” experiences, stressing a sense of individuality and personal attention. Around 130 guests are attended to by 38 staff from nine countries.
The sofas and chairs in the lounge encourage strangers to talk to each other. There are pre-arrival briefings on each town along the way, plus a French-themed cooking demonstration and lectures on French icons, painters, rivers and silk painting.
Uniworld also does river cruises elsewhere in Europe, China, Egypt, Russia and, starting in 2012, Vietnam and Cambodia.
