MICE people reach out to Russians, Arabs, South Americans
Russia and the CIS countries are emerging fast as hot markets for other countries’ MICE sectors. India’s MICE professionals expect the Russian market could climb by 20% in 2013, particularly to the key destination cities of Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata. This is proving valuable as long-haul sources such as the US and UK slow and clients there ask for hotels that are one star-rating lower than they wanted before. Yet there has been zero promotional activity on the MICE front in Russia so far.
“The Ministry of Tourism is conducting its regular roadshow in Russia in September, and for the first time there will be a MICE component,” says Chander Mansharamani, managing director of the Alpcord Network Travel & Conference Management Company. “We’re expecting 18 to 20 Indian participants. India is a new destination for the Russians and we’re getting small meetings at the moment. These are from the pharmaceutical, power and IT sectors.”
The Indian MICE sector is also looking to attract more groups from the Middle East and South America.
