AmaWaterways’ new ship is twice the width of normal boats
Luxury river cruise line AmaWaterways has revealed plans for AmaMagna, its biggest ever ship, to be launched in 2019 with “a new concept specifically designed to elevate the modern luxury market”.
Twice the width of traditional European river ships, it will handle “only 194 guests”, giving them “luxurious living spaces, multiple dining options including an al fresco glass-enclosed restaurant, more onboard activities and enhanced evening entertainment”, the company says.
The ship will debut a quieter and more fuel-efficient engine and – a first for river cruising – an open-water sports platform with zodiac boats, canoes and recreational equipment.
Construction work on the new vessel, which is initially destined to sail Danube itineraries, began on March 6 this year.
“As the luxury river cruise market continues to grow, we want to carry on as the leader in industry innovation. While this new double-width concept has been on the table for some time, we believe, given the unique demand that exists, that now is the perfect moment to introduce this style of ship,” said Rudi Schreiner, president and co-owner of AmaWaterways.
The majority of AmaMagna’s 97 staterooms will be 28 square metres or more. Additional amenities include a heated sundeck swimming pool with whirlpool and ‘sky bar’, spa area, fitness room and common areas big enough for onboard events.
