Record year for hotels in Denmark

Nearly 15 million overnights registered in Denmark in 2015
Hotels in Denmark saw a record number of overnight stays last year. Almost 15 million overnights were spent at hotels across the country in 2015, more than a million more than in 2014, according to figures from Statistics Denmark.
That’s 37.7% more than one of the previous peaks prior to the 2008 financial crisis. Meanwhile, hotel room capacity in the country has increased by 20%.
“We expect the trend to continue in 2016,” said Jens Zimmer Christensen, president of the trade association Horesta in Denmark.
A bigger increase was seen in 2015 among Danish tourists (10.6%), compared to 6.1% more overnights by foreigners. The Capital Region, Zealand and Midtjylland all had 9% more nights, North Denmark 6.6% more, South Denmark 4.9% more.
