Ransom hunters execute Norwegian’s fellow captive

Head of Canadian tourist found on island in Philippines
A Canadian tourist taken hostage by ransom-hunting Islamists in the Philippines last September has been executed, leaving the fate of his fellow captives – one more Canadian, a local woman and a Norwegian – hanging in the balance.
The head of the Canadian, who had been sailing his yacht in the southern Philippines, was discovered in a plastic bag on a beach on a remote island.
“I’m outraged by the news that a Canadian citizen, John Ridsdel, held hostage in the Philippines […] has been killed at the hands of his captors,” said Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. “This was an act of cold blooded murder and responsibility rests with the terrorist group who took him hostage.”
Ridsdel, Robert Hall, Marites Flor and Norwegian resort manager Kjartan Sekkingstad were kidnapped Abu Sayyaf gunmen at a marina near the city of Davao.
