Rail strike still hitting Sweden and Denmark

Services across the Øresund Bridge still disrupted

An ongoing strike by railway employees in southern Sweden is continuing to also disrupt international services across the Øresund Bridge and in Denmark’s Øresund region. It is unclear how long the strike will drag on for.

Passengers travelling between Copenhagen and Malmö are being advised to catch a replacement bus service between Copenhagen Airport and the Swedish town of Hyllie, close to Malmö – and from there to get a local train into Malmö.

The strike is affecting 76,000 passengers a day. Trains between Malmö and Gothenburg, Kalmar and Stockholm are also hit. Workers are striking against the rail company Veolia. The union that represents them says Veolia fired 250 people, then rehired them under worse conditions.

People attending big summer events such as the four-day Sweden Rock Festival, which starts today in Sölvesborg, will have to find alternative transport.
