Trains stop running between Malmö and Copenhagen
Most of the trains in southern Sweden stopped running this morning as rail workers went on strike. That includes trains between Malmö and Copenhagen across the Öresund Bridge. More than 75,000 people are struggling to find other forms of transport.
Trains between Malmö and Gothenburg, Kalmar and Stockholm are reported to be hit. Tourists have been affected as well as commuters between Copenhagen and Malmö. News agency TT quoted two Austrian tourists: “We’ll probably miss the flight home, it leaves in 90 minutes.”
Strikers say they are angry with train company Veolia. The union that represents them says Veolia fired 250 people, then rehired them under worse conditions.
