Pyramids still hold “last great mystery”

“Micro-snake” camera reveals mysterious stone doors

The 4,500-year old Great Pyramid of Giza, the only surviving relic of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world, still presents one “last great mystery”, according to Zahi Hawass, Egypt’s minister for antiquities affairs. The most recent attempt to unravel its secrets, led by scientists working under the supervision of Egypt’s authorities, was forced to abandon the site during the country’s civil unrest.
This exploration, named the Djedi project, used a “micro-snake” camera that can see around corners to examine two strange shafts that lead from one of the three burial chambers to highly-polished stone doors. The camera’s images show hieroglyphs in red and mysterious lines scratched on the stone. It is these doors that Hawass described as leading to the pyramid’s “last great mystery”.
