Americans urged that now is right time to discover Europe

The price is right for a European cruise, Americans are being told. Cruise lines have gambled on high demand for cruises this season by moving additional ships here. But high oil prices have increased air fares, forcing cruise companies to cut prices. “The rates on 2011 summer cruises to Europe and the Med are the best we’ve ever seen,” says one US agency specialising in cruises.
For classy northern European summer cruises, the upmarket Crystal Cruises is offering two-for-one prices of $7,050 per person. Royal Caribbean has sent half of its fleet of 22 vessels to Europe this year and has slashed its rates. A seven-night trip with Norwegian Cruise Line has been marked down to as low as $349 per person as part of a couple, but this offer has quickly been taken. Celebrity Cruises has already stopped a “fly and sail” promotion with cut-price air fares from $999 and a 10-night Med cruise from $1,199 per person.
