Premium Traffic Monitor – June 2013

Air travel markets stabilized in June after signs of deterioration in recent months

Premium passenger numbers were 4.1% higher in June year-on-year, up on the 2.0% growth in May;

·         This helped contain any further decline in premium’s share of total international air travel;

·         In July there was a small improvement in business confidence and a solid rise in export orders;

·         The improvement was aided by an end to the Eurozone recession in Q2 and a pick-up in US business activity;

·         Premium travel on markets like Europe – Far East/Middle East and North America – South America have benefited;

·         Despite the better June result, premium travel has expanded just 3.2% year-to-date, down on the 4.8% growth in 2012;

·         This reflects the broadly flat trend in business confidence throughout H1 2013;

·         Looking ahead, improving business conditions should reduce recent downward pressure on premium travel growth.
