But downside risks remain from continued economic weakness

Premium air travel is reported to have stabilised in January, according to figures just released by IATA, maintaining the December rebound level and increasing by 2.9% compared to a year ago. Meanwhile, economy-class air travel continues to grow at a reasonable pace, increasing 6.1% in January, year on year – above the 5.1% growth seen during 2011.
Seasonal adjusted trends show that over the past nine months, premium passenger market numbers have been stable while economy numbers have been trending positively at an annualised rate of 4.5%. Evidence suggests that premium travel is being supported by the slight improvement in business confidence. But downside risks remain both from the continued economic weakness in Europe and from the recent rise in oil prices.
