Around 70 flights redirected to Stockholm Arlanda

Stockholm’s Bromma airport effectively shut down yesterday afternoon because of a power outage. Even after the problem was fixed, just before 18:00, travellers continued to experience heavy delays. According to reports, around 70 flights were redirected to Arlanda.

The decision to shut down the airport was made at 16:15 – when the sun set. The electrical fault had been noticed three hours before that, but airport officials kept traffic flowing in the light of the day.

The airport’s electricity supplier, Fortum, denies responsibility.

Bromma is Sweden’s fifth largest airport, with 2.3 million passengers in 2012. It serves 11 domestic and seven international destinations.
