Incident in Indonesia described as “serious” safety breach
A pilot has been suspended from flying after landing a Sriwijaya Air passenger aircraft carrying more than 100 people at the wrong airport in Indonesia. The country’s transport ministry described the incident as “serious” and “very dangerous for passenger safety”. The plane was supposed to land at Minangkabau International Airport in Padang, but instead landed at an air force base 12 kilometres away. Air traffic control officials at Minangkabau airport are also under investigation.
The pilot, who is not an Indonesian national, was flying the plane from Medan in North Sumatra.
