Phnom Penh Int’l Airport breaks ground with Scent Experience at passenger terminal

With a view of creating an inviting environment and enhancing the airport experience for travelers, Phnom Penh International Airport introduces a new technology that diffuses relaxing aromas at its check-in counters, arrival hall and business lounge.

The implementation of the scent identity was carried-out by Signature Asia that provides the patented technology and opened a branch in Cambodia in 2013.

“Scenting is an important part of the branding strategy for many businesses. Mainly used in hotel facilities, the power of smell is so strong that many other sectors are nowadays interested in developing their own scent identity” says Mr. Maxime ROUSSILLON, CEO of Signature Asia. “It is the case with Phnom Penh International Airport which is actually a pioneer as the first airport in South-East Asia to implement a scent signature.”

Diffused via the air conditioning system, the subtle aroma covers over 30,000 m3 at the airports facilities and is environmentally-friendly. The scent is free of any solvent, gas propellant or other degenerating volatile organic compound. It has also been customized to fit with the airport’s overall atmosphere by harmonizing 3 different fragrances crafted by a renowned perfumer based in Grasse (France), the excellence center of the perfume center.

Mrs. Chloé LAPEYRE, General Manager of Phnom Penh International Airport, says: “The Scent Identity scheme furthers deepens our engagement with our customers by offering them a comfortable environment when they embark on their journey and arrive in the Kingdom. Also, in the context of the airport’s terminal extension, Cambodia Airports has undertaken a series of initiatives aiming at further enhancing passenger experience, including an extended car park and revamped service booths at the arrival exit.”
