Airlines lift pax figures to over 78 million in first nine months

Airlines in the Lufthansa Group are on course for further growth in passenger numbers. From January until September 2012, Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian Airlines carried a total of 78.8 million passengers, an increase of 3.5% on the year-earlier level. Capacity was up by 1.8%, while sales increased by 3.3%. Seat load factor rose accordingly by 1.2 percentage points to 79.3%.
Lufthansa itself carried 57.2 million passengers during the period, 3.6% more than in the same term last year. The strongest increases were recorded in the Middle East, Africa and Europe. Capacity at Lufthansa was up by 1.6%, mainly due to the use of larger aircraft. SWISS transported 12.9 million passengers, an increase of 3.9%, while Austrian Airlines carried 8.8 million, an increase of 2.1%.
The full business figures for the Lufthansa Group for the first nine months of 2012 will be released on 31 October.
