Pace of air travel expansion “has slowed”

IATA says international air traffic sees only modest rise

International air passenger traffic showed a modest year-on-year increase in July, rising 3.5%. In fact, the growth rate is looking increasingly modest compared with earlier this year. Traffic has been rising every month in 2012, according to IATA, but this is partly due to political turmoil in the Middle East in 2011. July is the smallest rise so far, up just 0.3% on a monthly basis.
“It becomes clear that since early this year the pace of air travel expansion has slowed, largely as a result of falling business confidence and world trade,” IATA said in a statement.
