Öresund Bridge to break traffic record

But the record numbers are travelling by car, not rail
The landmark Öresund Bridge between Sweden and Denmark is likely to break a new annual road traffic record this year, but the number of commuters by rail has dropped.
Once December figures come in, it is expected that a record number of cars will have made the crossing. Between January and November, traffic was up by almost 5% compared to the same period last year.
Around 6.9 million vehicles have crossed the bridge so far this year, with the biggest increase during the autumn – up 6.6% from August to November.
The trend is partly due to rail passengers switching to the car or bus to avoid delays caused by ID checks introduced in January. Swedish public transport operator Skånetrafiken says it sold 17% less travel cards for Öresund rail commuters in January-November.
