Airport’s A-Plus pier due to launch on October 10
A new structure at Frankfurt Airport is set to be unveiled and put into operation on October 10 – the A-Plus pier, designed to give positions at Terminal 1 for widebody aircraft. Fraport, the airport’s owner and operator, says that “the new A-Plus terminal section will, together with Piers C/D and B, constitute the main focus of Lufthansa’s future Airbus A380 handling activities at Terminal 1.”
The pier cost €700 million to build and provides for an additional six million passengers a year. It has four A380 and three Boeing 747-8I parking positions. Parallel take-off and landing operations can be handled on the 2,800-metre runway, boosting overall capacity at FRA so that almost 90 million passengers a year will be using the hub in the future.
