Airline also takes delivery of new Dreamliners
Norwegian has reported a doubling in profit year-on-year for its second-quarter results.
The low-cost carrier reports a pre-tax result NOK 930 million (€99.7 million), while load factor was 88% during the period, an increase of eight percentage points in two years and up three percentage points from the same period last year.
Chief executive Bjorn Kjos said the airline carried 7.7 million passengers in the quarter ending June 30, an increase of 11% year on year, which drove a 13% increase in total revenue to €708 million.
The airline has also introduced new aircraft to its fleet since the start of the year, with two new Dreamliners bringing the total to 10. The airline also added 10 new Boeing 737-800s.
Kjos said he was confident that Norwegian’s growth estimate of 18% for the year was on track.
“I am very pleased with the improved result and record high load factor for this quarter. However, we have had significant additional costs for leasing of aircraft and passenger compensation. Over the summer, we will phase out the wet-leased aircraft,” he said.
