Norwegian: pax up, load factor falls

On-time performance affected by lack of traffic controllers

Norwegian’s passenger growth continued in August, when more than 1.7 million passengers flew with the carrier, up 13% on the same month last year. The load factor was also reported to be high, at 80%, although this was down 2 percentage points from the record highs last summer. But the airline’s on-time performance was significantly affected by the lack of air traffic controllers at Avinor, Norway’s civil aviation authority.
Norwegian flew 1,724,046 passengers in August, and the total passenger traffic (RPK) increased by 18%. So far this year, the carrier has phased in nine out of a total of 13 new aircraft due to be delivered during 2012.
