Cruise ship to dock in Rio during next year’s Olympics
The new 4,000-passenger Norwegian Getaway cruise ship will dock in Rio de Janeiro during next year’s Olympics, adding to the city’s hotel capacity, a Games official has revealed.
A Rio 2016 official made the comment at a recent general assembly of the Pan American Sports Organization in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The ship would be located in the Maracanã zone close to the iconic Maracanã Stadium and the Sambódromo, home of the carnival parade and venue for the Olympic and Paralympic archery events.
One of the world’s 10 biggest cruise ships, Norwegian Getaway was delivered in 2014 and has a passenger capacity of 3,969 based on double occupancy of its 1,995 rooms.
A smaller NCL vessel, Norwegian Jade, was one of a number of cruise ships to drop anchor in Sochi during the 2014 Winter Olympics.
