Norwegian among tourists kidnapped in Philippines

Gunmen take resort owner, tourists and local woman
A Norwegian is among a small group of foreigners kidnapped from a tourist resort in the southern Philippines, the BBC reports this morning.
Kjartan Sekkingstad is said to be the manager of the Holiday Oceanview resort on Samal Island, near Davao City on the island of Mindanao. Two Canadians and a local woman were also taken.
The gunmen, who have not yet been identified, left by boat. Police believe the four were deliberately targeted rather than taken at random. The Canadians have been named as John Ridsel and Robert Hall.
The Filipino woman, who has not been identified, is said to be the partner of one of the Canadians. It is believed that two Japanese tourists tried to stop the kidnapping, which took place at around midnight.
There have been quite a number of kidnappings by Muslim militant groups in the southern Philippines, who hold hostages for ransom. The Islamist separatist group Abu Sayyaf has been holding some foreign hostages at remote camps for years.
