Norway stops Trolltunga images after deadly fall


Visit Norway changes marketing with pictures of Trolltunga
Visit Norway is changing its marketing that includes pictures of Trolltunga, following the deadly fall of a tourist from the famous promontory this week.
Australian student Kristi Kafcaloudis, 24, fell to her death while on Trolltunga, which extends 700 metres above the lake waters of Ringedalsvatnet, while getting ready to pose for a photo.
Visit Norway has already removed pictures of people posing on the rock from its website. It recently promoted the attraction with photos of visitors posing dangerously at its tip.
“It can – as we have recently seen – be extremely dangerous. The walk up there is also pretty hard, and many tourists are not prepared for that part either,” Marianne Mork of Innovation Norway told Australia’s News.com.au.
“Visit Norway has decided to remove some of its pictures featuring tourists posing on the tip of Trolltunga, in order to not inspire others to pose the same way. Our opinion is that many people underestimate the danger.”
The number of people making the four-hour hike to Trolltunga has risen dramatically from 500 in 2009 to 40,000 people in 2014.
