Ports collaborate for environmental improvements
Cutting the environmental impact of cruise ships visiting ports in Norway is the new joint task of the country’s cruise ports and organisations.
They will be working together to document emissions into air and water, waste management and energy use, while also assessing every ship’s individual environmental impact.
The aim is to persuade cruise lines and shipping companies to opt for solutions that are beneficial to the environment, such as equipping the cruise ships for shore power.
This is because many emissions from current cruise and other ships is that they are not able to connect to the grid when docked.
Among those participating in the scheme are the ports of Bergen, Stavanger, Trondheim, Oslo, Ålesund, Aurland and Stranda, as well as Innovation Norway and the Kystverket coastal administration.
