Norway issues Zika health advice for women

Travellers advised to use condoms for at least a month
Women who have travelled to areas hit by the Zika virus are advised to wait at least one month before becoming pregnant, according to the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.
Men and women should also use a condom for at least a month after returning from at-risk areas – extending this to six months if infection is suspected, the institute recommends on its website.
“As far as we know, there are only two cases in which Zika has been transferred through sexual contact,” Tone Bruun, consultant at the Department for Monitoring Infections at NIPH tells the Norwegian news agency NTB. “One of these dates back several years and another is from the current outbreak.”
The rapidly spreading virus is transmitted by the Aedes species of mosquito. Up to 27 countries have now been affected, many through infected tourists, including Denmark.
