Norway boat crash injures tourists

Ten tourists in hospital after being thrown into icy sea
A high-speed boat crash in northern Norway has seriously injured a number of tourists, throwing them into the icy sea “like dolls”.
Ten British tourists have been hospitalised. They were among 24 people on board the rigid-inflatable boat, including three crew, when it collided with a water fountain near the town of Harstad, north of the Arctic Circle.
The impact of the accident, which happened at around 15:00 yesterday, threw people into the sea “like dolls”, a local reporter commented. A second boat was also caught up in the accident.
Ten tourists and the driver of the boat were rushed to hospital after spending 15 minutes in the water. Two people, including the driver, are reported to be in a serious condition. An investigation is underway.
The tourists were on an Arctic Fjord package tour arranged by the company Inghams. Harstad, on the island of Hinnoya, is the gateway to the popular Lofoten Islands.
