Nordic noir boosts Öresund Bridge tourism

Danish-Swedish TV series ‘The Bridge’ appears to boost bridge traffic
The landmark Öresund Bridge between Copenhagen and Malmö has seen its biggest increase in traffic since 2008, with local day-trippers and tourists making more journeys across the road and rail link, The Local reports.
The bridge has become especially famous in the Danish-Swedish TV series The Bridge, whose third series is currently in production.
Total traffic across it rose 4.2% in the first quarter of 2015, year-on-year, as leisure traffic increased by just over 9%. Commuter traffic had suffered a decline in recent years but increased slightly by 1.4%. Around 16,300 people use the bridge per day, on average.
“We are extremely satisfied with developments,” said Caroline Ullman-Hammer, chief executive of Øresundsbro Konsortiet, which manages the bridge. “Leisure traffic and related activities […] have performed well. The trend in commuter traffic is particularly positive.”
However, communications director Sanna Holmqvist said it was “difficult to monitor” just how many of the people making the crossing have been inspired to do so by the TV series. “I have a feeling that more people are curious about the bridge these days — we do get a lot of enquiries but it,” she commented.
