Central Jutland airport set to be renamed
Karup Airport in Denmark’s central Jutland region, near the towns of Herning, Holsterbro, Viborg and Silkeborg, is getting a new name, which should end any confusion with Kastrup, the country’s major hub.
The name change is to be announced officially next week, but news site Midtjyllands Avis speculates that the airport will probably be renamed Midtjylland Airport. This is because an advertising and web agency that works with Danish airline DAT has just registered the domain name midtjyllandslufthavn.dk.
A name change for Karup, whose history dates back to World War II, has been on the cards for years. It currently offers only flights with DAT to and from Copenhagen.
Meanwhile, low-cost carrier Ryanair has announced a new route between Copenhagen (Kastrup) and the Italian town of Pescara on the Adriatic coast, east of Rome.
