Lufthansa cabin staff consider strike action

Union with 12,000 members makes strike threat

Cabin staff at Lufthansa warn that they may strike if the airline fails to offer to raise their salaries this week. UFO, a union that represents more than two-thirds of the airline’s 18,000 flight attendants, says that after a year of negotiations 97.5% of its members indicated in a recent vote that they would strike if an acceptable wage offer is not made. Talks between union and airline are scheduled for August 16, during which LH says a new offer will be given.
Cabin staff are proving more difficult for Lufthansa to negotiate with than pilots and ground staff, with whom it has already completed agreements. UFO wants a rise in salaries for its members, who have not had a pay increase for three years. It also wants a guarantee that temporary staff will not be used.
