Despite a short delay because of a medical emergency and a technical glitch, Singapore Airlines’ new medium- to long-haul low-cost carrier Scoot has landed in Sydney on its inaugural commercial flight from. Around 400 guests were on board. Initially, services are also being launched to the Gold Coast, Bangkok and Tianjin. CEO Campbell Wilson has also announced plans to fly to Tokyo and Taipei from October. Scoot's daily service to Sydney will add 290,000 seats a year to what experts see as a “key growth corridor”.
For inflight entertainment, Scoot offers iPads to passengers to rent. These will be “augmented later in the year by an onboard wireless system, which will allow guests to access streaming content from an onboard library via their own personal devices”. This could result in fuel savings, as current IFE (inflight entertainment) systems can weigh up to 7% of an aircraft’s weight.
