Delays expected at Bangkok airport in summer

Inbound flights may have to wait in the air for up to 45 minutes

Delays are expected throughout the summer at Bangkok’s main international airport. This is because Suvarnabhumi Airport will close one of its runways between June 11 and August 10 for routine maintenance. Traffic congestion at the already busy airport will occur both in the air and on the ground, according to Thailand’s Department of Civil Aviation. At peak periods, inbound flights may be forced to wait in the air before landing for up to 45 minutes. Airlines are telling passengers to allow a minimum 80 minutes for connections in Bangkok.
Thai aviation authorities are considering diverting some domestic flight operations to Don Mueang Airport during the two-month period, which will force passengers to include an extra 60 minutes’ travel time to get between the two airports.
