Beijing toilets: three flies and you’re out!

Officials are eager to clean reputation of city’s public toilets

Officials eager to clean up the reputation of public toilets in Beijing have said that the toilets must have no more than two flies at any one time. The new regulation is the latest effort to make the lavatories in the city’s parks, railway stations, airports, shopping centres and other places more hospitable.
Other new regulations designed to improve Beijing’s image include a rule that public toilets must not contain an accumulation of urine or water and that the bins are not overflowing. However, officials have not said what punishment awaits toilet operators who break these rules.
