French, Russian, British, German and Chinese tourists are considered to be the rudest in the world, according to a recent survey. But the company that conducted the poll, Skyscanner, emphasises that this reputation for rudeness can be put down to cultural differences. The appearance of the Chinese in the top five demonstrates the rise of outbound tourists from China.
“I think it is more about cultural differences that are being misinterpreted rather than actual rude behaviour,” Yi Bao, Skyscanner’s marketing manager for China, stressed.
“For instance Brits are stalwarts for queuing but this is not a common behaviour for Chinese people so could be interpreted as being rude if they do not adhere to this custom when holidaying in the UK. With so many Chinese tourists now going to the UK, there is more chance of Brits seeing this behaviour and interpreting it as rude.”
