Flights have resumed at London’s Gatwick airport after a Virgin Atlantic flight made an emergency landing. Smoke in the cabin forced the Orlando-bound Airbus A330-300, which had 13 crew and 299 passengers on board, to return to Gatwick. Passengers were evacuated quickly by the emergency services, but because the aircraft was on the runway all flights in and out of the airport had to be temporarily suspended.
“It all happened so quickly,” one passenger told the BBC. “We landed and suddenly all the doors flung open and the emergency slides were inflated. We then had to slide down the chutes and some people got cuts and grazes from the slide.”
