Hundreds of jobs are being lost in France and almost 130 jobs will disappear in the UK now that the French ferry operator SeaFrance has gone into liquidation. A court in France ordered on Monday that the liquidation of the loss-making ferry operator must go ahead following the rejection of a plan by the company’s employees to save it by establishing a workers’ cooperative.
The ferry company operated the Dover-Calais line until ships stopped running in November. Those who will lose their jobs on both sides of the Channel include not just office workers but check-in staff and employees who helped passengers to board the ships.
