New threat of strikes at Lufthansa

Cabin crew union says mediation unlikely to work
A major cabin crew union is threatening more strikes at Lufthansa as mediation between it and the airline looks unlikely to result in an agreement.
Mediation talks with German union UFO have been extended to give the two sides more time to try and reach a compromise. The issues at stake include pay and pensions. UFO represents more than 13,000 cabin crew in various Lufthansa subsidiaries.
Despite Lufthansa saying it had presented a “significantly improved” offer to the union on Thursday, UFO said the carrier had made extra requirements that would reduce pension provisions for all employees as well as worsen pay and working conditions for cabin crew.
“Should there be no significant change, the union believes that industrial action will be necessary,” it said.
The mediator should make a non-binding recommendation on June 20, and UFO has a deadline of June 24 to evaluate the proposal.
