Airline director reveals his personal Russia favourites

The Siberian airline S7, headquartered in Novosibirsk, Russia, will launch flights between Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport and Helsinki on April 26, a move the airport says will further strengthen its position as an international transit airport, improving Russian connections for European passengers.

S7 is a member of the oneworld alliance and launched codeshare cooperation with Finnair last month.

“Russians are frequent travellers and Helsinki is a popular foreign destination from Moscow,” S7’s strategy director Vadim Besperstov said. “So far, the number of flight connections has not matched the demand.”

Besperstov said that his personal favourite destinations in Russia are Moscow, Kazan and Sochi.

“In Moscow you can combine culture and entertainment in your trip. Moscow provides you with the best theatres in Russia, such as the Bolshoi. Its nightlife is one of the most active in Europe.”

Kazan is an fascinating historic destination with a magnificent, fortified city centre, he added, while Sochi has lots to experience in both summer and winter.

Several flights link Moscow and Helsinki every day. Aeroflot and Finnair already provide connections to Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow. Previously, an air traffic contract between Finland and Russia enabled operations by only one airline from each country on the Moscow route, but an updating of the agreement in late October made it possible for a new airline to enter the market.
