Mitsubishi’s MRJ, Russia’s Superjets, CSeries CS100
New aircraft types created by manufacturers Mitsubishi Aircraft, Bombardier and Sukhoi are on the hunt for airline customers in Europe – the world’s second biggest market for regional jets after the United States.
Mitsubishi Aircraft is hoping that the maiden flight of Japan’s first small passenger plane in 50 years will interest potential customers, especially in Europe where it has not yet attracted any buyers.
The first flight of the Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ), which has less than 100 seats, was delayed from June and is now scheduled for between October 26 and 30.
Meanwhile, Russian-made Sukhoi Superjets have secured their first major customer in Europe, with Irish regional carrier Cityjet announcing a $1 billion deal to buy 15 (plus 10 options) 98-seat Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) to replace its fleet of Avro RJ85 jets.
Bombardier says it is on track to certify the CSeries CS100 by the end of the year and is 100% committed to it. The Canadian manufacturer had been in talks with Airbus about investment in the CSeries, but discussions ended last week with some insiders predicting the end of CSeries altogether.
